Everyone thinks that the holiday weight gain season kicks off with Thanksgiving. They are misleading themselves. The holiday weight gain season kicks off about mid-October, when your co-workers start bringing in Halloween candy and depositing at the reception desk.
Next thing you know, you are inhaling a little mini candy bar here and there. You don’t think much about it because they are small, but you also don’t realize you have had six or seven of them by the time you have headed home at the end of the day. Yikes, that is like eating a super king size version, all you did was break it up over an eight hour period. So, even though you don’t think you have anything to fear until the turkey comes out of the oven, you are already well on your way to packing on plenty of extra pounds for the winter.
We here at The Medifast Plan have a sweet tooth and not a ton of will power. Not a good combination. But, if you do it smart and have a little moderation, you can survive Halloween without eight extra pounds hanging off of your body.
First, don’t eat the candy at work. It really is that simple. It isn’t there most of the time of the year and you get along just fine. It isn’t like you couldn’t swing by the local store and get your own any time. Why is it any different sitting there in the lunch room. Because it is free and readily available, does it really make it taste any better or make it any more resistable than it is when you go grocery shopping? Bring your own candy if you have to. It is better to eat one regula Snickers bar at lunch than it is to have seven of the mini’s throughout the day. You set the plan, don’t let it be dictated by availability.
Second, get started on your diet plan now. Don’t wait until you have already made it worse by gorging your way through the holidays. Start now while you are ‘ahead’ so to speak. Worst case is that you can help yourself offset any bad eating you do on special occassions by being disciplined at other times. Think how great you will feel come January 1 if you have alreayd lost 10, 15, maybe even 30 pounds by then. You can give yourself the gift of a new you.
