Think All Business Execs Are FAT Cats?

So, you are a busy working person with a family and you have convinced yourself that you simply don’t have time to work out, or even eat right. How can you possibly balance all of your responsibilities and still find the time to get a workout in? Impossible!

Well, the Wall Street Journal is out to prove you wrong. It is running a very interesting series on how many big time business executives are doing the impossible and staying in shape. The most recent feature is on Yahoo’s Hilary Schneider, an executive vice president of Yahoo Americas. Not only is Ms. Schneider a very busy woman at work, she also has three teenage boys to corral. Yet, with all of that professional and family responsiblity, she still finds time to workout and stay in shape.

So, how does she do it? How does someone who works 50 hours a week still find time to spend with her family and get a workout in? She gets up early folks. Three days a week at 5 am to go to a one hour spin class at the gym, and two days a week to workout with a friend and a personal trainer. "Exercising alone at 6 a.m. isn’t as fun." Then on weekends she goes for a long 2-3 hour bike ride with her husband or kids or both. She tries to get in six workout a week but five is the realistic goal.

She also eats right. Lots of fruits and vegtables and lean protein. She stays away from sugary and fatty snacks by having pretzels and oranges near her desk. She cooks dinner at home most nights with her husband, but when she does eat out she usually goes for a salad and a relatively healthy small plate to go along with it.

This is great series and it covers the entire spectrum of working folks and how they manage to balance work, life and fitness to be healthy. Not only are CEO’s and executives profiled, but also MS patients, fashing designers, museum curators, and even Terrell Owens.
